Mega Man Let's begin with the classic series. The original Mega Man was created by Akira Kitamura, Tokuro Fujiwara, and Keiji Inafune (whom has now left Capcom.) It came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in Dec. 1987.This was the beginning of Mega Man's story to stop Dr. Wily. The game would go on to be loved by gamers and critics alike. It wasn't a commercial success, but would lead to numerous sequels, many which are still classics today. Some of my favorites from the series are: Mega Man 2, 3,4,7,8 and Mega Man & Bass. The classic series seemed to end in 1998 with the release of Mega Man & Bass in Japan. America wouldn't get a chance to play it until it was localized for the Gameboy Advance. It would be a decade later when Mega Man 9 would be released as a digital only release for WiiWare, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade. Even though it was released for modern consoles, it still has the original 8-bit graphics and sound we were familiar with. Mega Man 10 would follow in 2010. Mega Man X Next up is the Mega Man X saga, which was released in Dec. 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The story was set in 21XX and is about a team of Maverick hunters led by X and Zero. Their mission is to stop Sigma who has gone maverick and to prevent him from destroying humanity. It maintained the basic concepts, but enhanced the formula by adding new gameplay elements such as armor upgrades and a more mature story line. The game received positive reviews form critics and gamers alike. It was a successful transition from the classic NES series to the Super Nintendo one. With the continued success of Mega Man X, there would be two more sequels until moving to the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Some of my favorites are: Mega Man X, X2, X3 X4, X5, and X8.
